We are almost officially in the holiday season, and with that comes holiday parties, family get-togethers and more reasons to ensure that you have a clean, de-cluttered home. While preparing for the holidays is the perfect time to de-clutter the rooms of your home and make way for a brand-new year. De-cluttering can be extremely overwhelming, especially when having children, but it is doable if done in an organized way and is very rewarding! If you are ready to de-clutter your home but are not sure where to start, check out some tips on how to begin the process!

First thing is first: you must set goals. Are you looking to de-clutter one room in your home that builds up with more and more belongings each day? Or, are you looking to go through each room in your home and get rid of items that you no longer need? Whatever the case is, make sure that you are aware of what you are in for. Write down exactly what you are looking to get done. For each action item, make sure that you assign a deadline for yourself so that you can hold yourself accountable. For example, if you are looking to de-clutter your kid’s play area room, give yourself a realistic amount of time to get it done. Remember that good things take time, and you should not expect yourself to finish everything right away!

Once you have your goals and deadlines, you are ready to begin the de-cluttering process and be on your way to a cleaner and more organized home! When de-cluttering, in order to not completely overwhelm yourself, you must begin in a prepared and ordered fashion. Create different buckets that you will use to organize your things, including a bucket for what you are going to keep, throw away, recycle, donate or sell. Make sure that everything you are choosing to keep is folded and stored away nicely along the way. For items that you are choosing to sell, you can host a garage or yard sale for! Many people find it easiest to de-clutter room by room so that each room is completed before starting the next.

With these tips, you will be well on your way to a de-cluttered home just in time for the holiday season! Happy de-cluttering!
